| Ananda Dwivano Moeis | 7B | 6 | Global Reach | Halaman 2: NASA and the Argentine National Commission on Space Activities (CONAE) are cooperating on the Aquarius/Scientific Application Satellite–D (SAC-D) mission, which launched in June 2011 from Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB), California. NASA provided the Aquarius instrument, which measures global sea surface salinity, and executed the launch of SAC-D. CONAE provided the spacecraft bus, data-collection system, high-sensitivity camera, microwave radiometer, and New Infrared Sensor Technology (NIRST). Through CONAE, France provided the Carmen I instrument and Italy provided the Radio Occultation Sounder for Atmosphere (ROSA) instrument. Data-processing, dissemination, and archiving tasks are performed by NASA. Mission operations are conducted at the CONAE ground station in Córdoba, Argentina. The Aquarius/SAC-D mission provides data that helps scientists better understand the climatic interactions between the global water cycle and ocean circulation by systematically mapping the spatial and temporal variations of sea surface salinity. Aquarius measures sea surface salinity variability—the key tracer for freshwater input and output to the ocean associated with precipitation, evaporation, ice-melting, and river runoff. These measurements, combined with sea surface temperature (SST) from other satellites, assist in determining sea surface density, which controls the formation of water masses and regulate the three-dimensional ocean circulation. The science goals of the mission are to observe and model the processes that relate salinity variations to climatic changes in the global cycling of water in order to understand how these variations influence the general ocean circulation. The Aquarius instrument yielded NASA’s first global map of the salinity of the ocean surface, demonstrating Aquarius’s ability to detect large-scale salinity distribution features clearly and with sharp contrast. | Halaman 138: Space geodesy is the science of accurately measuring and understanding Earth’s geometric shape, its orientation in space, and its gravity field. Geodetic observing systems and the global geodetic infrastructure underlie navigation systems and support a wide array of military, research, civil, and commercial applications. The global space geodetic infrastructure consists of a network that combines four techniques—Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR), Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), the Global Positioning System (GPS), and the Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning Integrated by Satellite (DORIS) system—to define the terrestrial and celestial reference frames and Earth’s orientation in space. Among the many important applications are the study of ocean circulation, sea level change, changes in Earth’s ice caps, deformation leading to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides. The space geodetic network also enables precision deep-space, air, and land navigation used in most scientific and commercial applications. NASA cooperates with over 30 countries in space geodesy research in support of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS). NASA also supports the International GPS Service (IGS), the International VLBI Service (IVS), and the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS). These three organizations place geodetic network operations, analysis, and standards within an international framework of cooperation and collaboration under the aegis of the International Association of Geodesy. As part of the cooperation, NASA often loans equipment to host countries for use in space geodetic ground stations. The host countries, in turn, provide utilities, security, housing, operation, and maintenance of the equipment. These ground stations provide critical geodetic reference points within the host country. The inclusion of the stations within the global geodetic infrastructure significantly improves the accuracy of measurements at all scales. All preprocessed and analyzed NASA space geodetic data are available from the Crustal Dynamics Data Information System (CDDIS) at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The CDDIS also is a major data archive for the GGOS. |

Kancil yang satu ini dikenal memiliki kecerdikan yang luar biasa. Tak hanya cerdik, kancil pun dikenal sebagai satwa yang ramah akan sesama. Seperti suatu pagi, ia melihat seekor induk bebek yang tengah berenang bersama anaknya. Kancil pun yang sedang berjalan menelusuri hutan menyapa bebek tersebut, “Hai bebek! Asik sekali kamu berenang.” Begitu pun kepada satwa-satwa lain yang sepanjang jalan tak henti menyapa dan ia sapa. Itulah kancil dengan keramahan yang selalu disegani banyak satwa di hutan itu. | Seekor buaya keluar ke tepi sungai menghampiri kancil yang terlihat senang, “Hei Kancil! Ada apa kamu ke sungai? Apa kamu mau menjadi santapan kami?” tanya buaya itu pada kancil. Kancil pun menjawab pertanyaan buaya dengan senang hati, “Aku mempunyai berita baik untuk kalian semua, aku membawa daging segar dari raja dan diperintahkan untuk menghitung jumlah buaya yang ada di sungai. Kalian cukup berjajar di sungai dan nanti akan aku hitung.” Merasa senang mendengar kabar kancil membawa daging segar untuk ia dan teman-teman buaya lainnya, buaya tadi kemudian menyanggupi permintaan kancil dan memanggil seluruh buaya yang berada di sungai untuk berjejer hingga membentuk jembatan. “Sudah siap!” kata semua buaya bersemangat. Kancil pun dengan girang melompati buaya dan pura-pura menghitung buaya-buaya yang sudah berjejer membentuk jembatan itu. Setelah sampai ujung, kancil pun melompat ke tepi sungai. Lalu ia berkata, “Terima kasih para buaya, berkat kalian, aku jadi bisa menyebrangi sungai ini.” Setelah berkata seperti itu pada buaya, kancil langsung berlari kencang meninggalkan buaya yang marah karena perbuatannya. Kancil pun dengan bebas memakan buah-buahan yang ada di sebrang sungai untuk menghilangkan rasa laparnya. |
